Functional Literacy Series is available as a Sampler with 80 nouns/verbs on one CD-ROM and as a Series with 560 words on seven CD-ROMs. Both Sampler and Series teach low-level readers to recognize important nouns and verbs they encounter every day. These exciting, live-action programs incorporate instructional video, multiple choice questions and problems requiring the student to place correct words in real photos. All activities are monitored by an easy-to-use management system that lets you make assignments and keep track of student performance.

The student completes a three phase sequence for each word. The instructional phase introduces the word in text and links it to a video clip illustrating its meaning. In review phase, the student hears the word and matches it to corresponding text in a multiple-choice format. During generalization, the student selects the word that reflects the content of a video clip. Videos offer two difficulty levels of audio, one very basic and the other more advanced.

The 560 words in the Series are organized by difficulty. The Series includes three levels of nouns and verbs and one collection of describing words. Each level presents 80 words on one CD-ROM. Level 1 words include bed, car and shirt plus call, cry and smell. Examples of Level 3 are dinner, children and week plus apply, keep and stretch. Describing words include narrow, sharp and smooth.

The Functional Literacy Series Sampler includes 80 words (40 nouns, 40 verbs) from levels 1 and 2 on one CD-ROM.
