Select the words presented to each student or choose a standard pre-test approach. The student who takes the pre-test is assigned only the words she didn’t know. During the instruction phase, the student is shown a brief video to illustrate the meaning of the vocabulary. A sequence of multiple choice questions follows. If the student answers these correctly, she moves on to the next word on her list. If not, the whole sequence is repeated again until she demonstrates mastery. The software constantly records student performance, and it’s easy to add new vocabulary to a word list.

The Functional Words Software Series includes six Win/Mac CDs with 80 words on each. The nouns and verbs presented vary in difficulty from easy (bed, cry) to more complex (children, apply).
