Laureate's
First Categories
uses 60 common nouns to train 6 essential early categories:
animals, foods, body parts, clothing, furniture, and vehicles.
For learners who are motivated by visual stimulation, Laureate
offers full-screen scenes and 3-D blocks. For those who
are easily distracted, a simple black background can be used.

This
program:
• Trains 6 early categories using 60 nouns
• Expands understanding of word meaning
• Includes 120 illustrations and 120 photos
Suggested for
individuals (Pre-K through Adult) with:
• Autism, developmental disabilities,
language-learning disabilities, physical
impairments, TBI, and aphasia
Using Laureate's Optimized
Intervention® technology, First Categories begins
with an assessment to determine which categories
a student doesn’t already know. During training,
a student is asked to identify the item that
belongs to a particular category (“Which one is
an animal?”) The program continually monitors a
student’s performance and then tailors
instructional delivery to his or her unique
needs.
The Sterling
Administration System carefully tracks all
variables related to a student’s progress
through the curriculum and stores this
information in the Student File. The Report
Writer has been designed to access this Student
File and extract meaningful information to
include in Student Reports.
Flexibility and control
You decide to train
using two or three choices and whether to use
illustrations or photographs. Four examples of
each item aid in generalizing the concept. At
the end of each lesson, a summary of the
student’s performance is presented, allowing you
to quickly review progress and ensure
accountability.
