Step Up to Math by Anne Marie Johnson, B.S. Ed., M.Ed.
provides a variety of cognitive foundation skills necessary for
mastery of math concepts. This book includes activities that
precede numeration and quantitative concepts. The worksheets and
activities cover the following topics:

The worksheets begin at a basic level and gradually
increase in difficulty, building the students' skills and confidence
along the way. The book uses Picture Communication Symbols in all of the
pre-math activities. The symbols are appropriate for a wide variety of
age and learning levels. In addition to worksheets, there are a variety
of carry-over activities that stress fine-motor skills, gross-motor
skills, and generalization skills. These pre-math activities will help
students transition to basic math by providing a strong foundation in
concepts that will increase the understanding of number concepts.
